An idle question: could the X15, with the XLR99 engine, fullyfueled (with or without drop tanks) could have launched itself vertically from a launch pad And if so, how high could it have gone A quick google search did not show anything. I was wondering if anyone could explain how the new proposed NASA moon probe will actually work when its using its laser (split into five beams) to map the surface.
